SAM is here!!
So many of you probably already know that Sam is here visiting me for this week that I have no school. We´ve been pretty busy: first thing we did was go to the nearby beach on monday for about an hour. Afterwards we came back to have a gross looking lunch (rice with squid and it was all black..?) I was hoping it´d be a crazy meal with my brothers refusing to eat it, but my mama wasnt there and my papa just let my brothers go play video games. Oh well.
Monday afternoon we walked around town and shopped for xmas gifts. That night we went out and it was fun to have Sam meet all of my friends. We played bball with some kids, and us tall Brummitts (especially Sam) DOMINATED!
Tuesday my parents, Sam, Axel and I drove up and up to have a picnic lunch of tortilla espanola (potato pancake) in the woodsy part. There was a great view-we were above the clouds and could see Tenerife in the distance. We drove farther north and higher up, all the while Axel be bored and not knowing what to do with himself. Finally we got up to a place to take pictures-it was sooo pretty. Peaks of the mountains popped out of the clouds, and far off in the distance were 2 other islands. There were several observatory stations and a few random buildings to house the scientists, otherwise the land was bear and dry and treeless. It was really cold and windy, too.
That night we went to Harry Potter with some of my friends (my 2nd time seeing it, understood a lot more this 2nd time). Sam and I went back to the house to eat a snack, and so he could put on his jeans that he had washed earlier. They still weren´t dry, so I offered my big, baggy and fairly long corduroy pants. They fit fine--well fine for European style (a little tight...) It was funny seeing Sam wearing my pants...see photos in my upcoming album.
Then we went out again and walked up and down the same little strip of the main street. There was really absolutely nohting to do, and by 1030 there was hardly anyone out (typical...) But Ive got lots of friends here and I´m still having a blast.
Wednesday we took the coach bus (GuaGua-the city bus) to Los Llanos on the other side of the island. Los Llanos is a little bigger than Santa Cruz, and it´s on fairly flat land, so the town was more spread out. There were more stores to shop in, and the streets were wide. We shopped for a little bit until siesta hour from 2-4 or 5pm. We sat and drank coffee on a plaza for over an hour talking about lots of stuff, then decided to check out Tazacorte--town on the coast with a beach. Took the GuaGua there for a 20 minute ride and ate a late lunch of fried fish, french fries, and Sam got spaghetti with tuna and tomato sauce. It was super hot, we both got tan just sitting at the table, and there were looooads of tourists filling the huge black sanded beach. We went in the touristy shops for a little, then headed back to Los Llanos to catch the GuaGua back to Santa Cruz.
While in Tazacorte we saw this funny looking old man with a fishing hat, thick bifocals and wearing a thick sweater and cords (even though it was probably 80 degrees). We saw this guy 3 times, and sat in front of him on the bus. We were laughing, trying to secretly get a picture of him, and thinking what can we ask him? I made some small talk with him and neither of us could understand a word this old wrinkly face crossed eyed man was telling us. We just smiled and nodded, and got some awesome laughs out of it.
Took a longer way back home, going through the southern part of the island, saw the sunset from the GuaGua and winded through the windy roads on home to S/C de La Palma. Home, sweeeeet Home!
It´s been so fun having Sam here, and anyone else who wants to visit, you know, just stop by whenever you get a chance!!
